We stayed at Grizzly and let someone else do the driving by using a private tour company with a van with just our family. It was expensive but worth every dollar. This guy knew where to go and what to do to take advantage of the best sights. Crowds! What crowds? We didn't even notice because we didn't have to hassle with driving or parking. We had our own private tour of some off road mud pots, mineral pools, buffalo herds, and geysers. No problem making both loops (different days) from West Yellowstone.
