Recommend some campgrounds in North-North East New Mexico

My wife and I are planning on taking a trip next month, we want to head to the Northern New Mexico area, preferable the North East area for less driving, we are coming from Missouri, the Carson Nation...

There is a nice state park near Raton and one of the best campgrounds is at the NRA Whittington Center just south of Raton. It does not have fancy amenities but the spaces are large, level and long. The rest room facilities are really good. But the best part is the beautiful country around you. We have had many deer, antelope and turkey walking through the RV sites. You do not need to be an NRA member to camp there.
