What the heck has happened to the recreation.gov website? I've used that website probably 100 times over the years, and I just tried to book a campsite and (1) can't figure out how to do it, (2) can't get a list of available campsites by date, and (3) most of the screens are a blank white page with a "Next" button that pulls up the same blank white page. The only thing I've been able to do is to pull up a barely readable map, click on a site, check its availability, then click on another site, do it again, and keep doing that until I blow my brains out.Either I've turned into a total moron (which is possible) or I need some guidance from someone on how to use the site. Seems to be working okay, except it crashed my iPad browser just now when I tried to check dates. Tried a second time and entered the dates manually (MM/DD/YYYY) instead of using their pop-up calendar and it worked. Might try using a different web browser or clearing the history and rebooting the browser that the site isn't working on.(These things happen...I'm sure you're not a total moron ;) )

I was having trouble until I checked "site list" and that made it look like it use to look. Good luck

I just tried it and it's working for me. It could be a setting on your computer. You might try restarting your computer and trying again.Once you find your campground, you should be able to enter dates on the left hand side. To the right, going across the screen you should have the following tabs:Facility Details Facility Map Site List Date Range Availability Visitor PhotosOnce your dates are entered, the Facility Map should show you an interactive map with the campsites - the blue icons are available campsites; the Site List will list all the sites with size and availability; the Date Range Availability will show you each site with an A (available), R (reserved), or W (walk in) - it will show you the 2 weeks around the dates you plugged in, but you can click on the arrows to go further out or look at earlier dates.Hope that helps.

This is a free plugin that allows you to adjust whether sites see your computer as a PC or a mobile device.

It's an essential addon for small computers. Sometimes you WANT a mobile site, for fast loading and minimal RAM use. Other times, like now, you want the desktop site.

Heaven forbid you should be forced to resort to a cludgey browser like IE!

Recreation.gov is currently operated by ReserveAmerica. The reservation fee you pay when booking a site pays them, not tax dollars.

You also need to make sure you are running the most updated versions of both your browser and the Adobe plug -ins.

I was on that site yesterday with my Firefox and had no problems at all.

This IS in the individual computers and their browsers not the .gov web site.

I've found over the years that if a web site doesn't seem to work, then switching to Internet Explorer often fixes the issue.

I think IE is the standard that many (most?) web developers use. They make their site work for IE, testing it extensively, then they try to make it work for the other web browsers.

Try Chrome or (IE|Safari). Try clearing your browser cache and cookies. It's working for me (Windows 8.1, using Chrome).

Wish my darned bank (US Bank) would fix their web site so that all features work properly in Chrome. I have to use that one in IE. (These issues are not .gov specific.)

Thanks for the response, but I think the problem is otherwise. It sounds like you're an IT person, so you already know that when connecting to a website the browser sends its "user agent," which is a single line of code that contains the browser’s version and operating system. I've checked mine for Firefox and it's right. (Again, you probably already know this, but for the benefit of others you can check your user agent here: http://whatsmyuseragent.com/.) It looks like it's a problem with the way recreation.gov either reads the user agent code or picks the default display option.

Ah ... the joys of computers!

Firefox will do that on occasion. Rebooting your computer will most likely fix the issue..the problem is NOT with recreation.gov website, it's with your computer settings....Dennis
