This will be our first full season with our TT. I am finding out that I may need to be more proactive about planning vacations. I just tried to make reservations for a week in June at one of our favorite State Parks in SC. They have a 13 month window for reservations and I missed the boat for that week. The lady I spoke with at the Park Service was very nice, she told me to make reservations for June 2017 in May 2016!!!! I thought I was on the ball planning 6 months in advance! Nope. It's a bit more difficult when you are working full time and have kids in school, etc. I was hoping that we could have a certain amount of spontaneity by getting a camper. Just decide to take off on a Friday for the weekend, now I'm not so sure how that's going to work out.
This is the difference between folks who travel and those who camp. It's much easier to go reservation free when you are looking for a place to park fairly close to X. It's a different beast when you are looking to stay at Y during the weekend.
During the peak season, I always make reservations well in advance. I have several favorite NF campgrounds and I have to book them very early on. Where I gain the spontaneity, is during the off season. I have a list of year round campgrounds - if a good weekend comes along, I just pick one of the list and head out. Lets me plan for my favorite places and be spontaneous for the others.
