On the U.P. there are municipal CGs at Houghton and Munising. Houghton makes all of Copper Country available as a day trip (or more likely two or three day trips).
Munising is base camp for Picture Rocks NLS.
Check with the campgrounds to see when they close for the season. Not much is open after the middle of October and maybe sooner. I would advise that for any camping location; State, municipal or private.
