We would like to visit the RGV area this coming winter. We walk a lot so would prefer parks within walking distance(a mile) to stores (Walmart, Grocery Stores) etc. Would like something away from ...

Corpus Christi and the Padre Island is a great place... Not sure how far south you can drive down the Island however...

The RIO GRANDE Valley State Park is known for its bird viewing...
Texas is sure getting its share of flooding this season - almost biblical proportion it seems... The Trinity and Brazos Rivers almost cut the large Texas state in half and when they flood it is pure havoc... We lived in North Texas for several years...
