Never noticed salt in Harlingen and we have been there 5 winters.
From what I've been told by the locals salt damage is much worst in the summer months when the winds are mostly out of the south.
A friend of mine that hauls RV's feels that summertime storage from about Harlingen and further west you're out of the salt zone. Not so true from San Benito and east thereof.
Regardless, salt damage in the central valley is pretty small potatoes compared to what you get in return for the location (IMO.)
