Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch - Picacho, AZ

About halfway between Tucson and Phoenix (near Picacho Peak) is the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. We have passed in literally dozens of times - thinking we should stop in and see it. Never have. Until today.

This is one of the neatest / fun places we have seen. Would be really great with children but adults (it was me, DW and 46 year old daughter from London) can enjoy it as well.

Very clean and great staff.

You feed the ostriches, goats, deer, donkeys, ducks, prairie dogs and some fantastically beautiful parrot type birds - and see two HUGE tortoises.

$5 each - includes the food!

One of the best deals and most fun ever!

Just West of Casa Grande where 64 joins up with 347 Maricopa RD is the John Wayne RV RESORT. Pretty nice camp ground. John Wayne had a working BULL RANCH in this area back in the day and that is probably connected to the name Rooster Cogburn somehow at Picacho Peak.... Use to go down that way alot back in the early 70s when I lived out there... Even got meet John Wayne in Maricopa one time -
  • Yes, at Picacho Peak --- not at the Ostrich Farm! :-)

There is camping at Picacho Peak at the state park and also a very nice (55+) RV park there (right next to Rooster Cogburn).

And, great hiking at Picacho Peak - summiting is a challenge!
