Route ideas/ Campgrounds near Cape Coral, Fl, Tampa, St Pete

Planning a trip mid March from Myrtle Beach to Key West, then crossing Fl to west coast - plan to visit friends in Cape Coral, then North Point, Tampa/St Pete areas, then return back to MB. Traveling...

We've stayed many times at Fort DeSoto, a Pinellas County park on the water at the base of the Tampa Bay Area. Beautiful beach, interesting Fort to tour. One section allows dogs. There are a lot of trees, though, but they do have some pull thru sites away from the water. Two dump stations.
