I missed the fact that you are on I-80 and not I-90. I-90 is much easier then I-80.
I 80 would require you to come in south entrance which is a healthy day from Jackson to West Yellowstone.

But, he doesn't have to drive it in one day, or two days.

  • That's a good road. You'll have to cross Togwotee Pass which is about 9700'. You'll be really close to Teton NP and be able to see the mountains. If you've not been to the park, it's definitely worth a trip.
  • Depends on what your time frame is and what else you want to see. All entrances except west involve climbs and/or switchbacks, but nothing you can't handle if you take it easy, gear down where needed and drive carefully. For where you're staying, I'd go in east, south or west entrance. Madison CG will be closest to west entrance.
  • I would use US 191 to West Yellowstone, then into Madison. Drop trailer and then have some great times!

West Yellowstone? Madison? The south on US 191.
    Mammoth US 89
Fishing Bridge? Maybe US 310 and come in from the east entrance

We are staying in Madison Campground in Yellowstone.
