- dkreuzenExplorerWe stayed at Harbortown in Monroe and found it very nice. If we ever go again we will stay there.
- FCExplorerWe stayed overnight at the Detroit greenfield campground( used to be a KOA) and found it to be a nice campground and easily accessible off the I state.
- Matt_ColieExplorer IIAs a local, I can only provide information. We would not bother camping in walking distance.
Camp Dearborn is a pretty decent place. but a lot of it is FHU parking lot. It is about 40 miles from HFGV.
Detroit Greenfield (no longer a KOA has more shade, most are FHU and is 25 miles from HFGV.
Wayne County Fairground is 6~7 miles closer, but not much (if any) FHU. WE is common and there is a dump.
Sterling SP is a parking lot (zero shade), clean safe and nice, but very few FHU. Electric is common and even water can be rare. It is 35 miles from HFGV.
Harbortown in Monroe is listed as an RV resort (We don't do those). It is 36 miles from HFGV.
RV parking at HFVG is problematic at best if you are over 26'.
I hope this is a help.
You don't want to miss HFGV if you are within 150 miles (maybe 250 - it is that good). Plan at least two whole days. The museum alone is 18 acres under one roof. It is difficult to see in a day. The village is another couple hundred, but you won't walk is all as it contains parade grounds and backlots.
Matt - Whose DW was a docent there at one time. - cruzr4-2ExplorerDo a search for 'Wayne County Fair Grounds' in Belleville Mi.
We stayed/camped there in 2008. There were several campers, was decent, felt safe and was close to the Museum. We would stay there again.
Have fun and be safe. Henry Fords and the Village is a great place.
Dennis - Jim_ShoeExplorerThere are two campgrounds operated by the museum and they sell camping/entrance fee packages for both.Museum campgrounds
- noe-placeExplorerAnother vote for Harbor Town in Monroe. It is a great place and they take a lot of pride in the way it looks. :C
- jeb5ExplorerI agree with the 2 parks in Monroe, Mich. Much less congested and a very safe area.
- kknowltonExplorer IIThere's one in Ypsilanti which is ok - or was when we were last there. Not sure if it's still a KOA or not. Have also been to Sterling SP & Harbortown; those are better, but farther away than the Ypsilanti CG. Much more shade at the latter, too.
- past-MIdirectorExplorerYou'll need to go to Monroe for want you want, Sterling State Park I-75 exit 15, Harbortown I-75 exit 11, River Raisin Campground & Marina I-75 exit 14, and Camp Load Willing north of Monroe off US-24.
