RV Park Reviews

How many of you read and use the reviews on a park? To decide witch one to stay at when planning a trip. I try to use reviews and photos to make my decision. I am just curious who dose this and what else do you do? And do you post reviews?

  • I use RV Park Reviews all the time. I also post reviews there. Another site is campsitephotos. You can look at every site in a park to see what they look like. Not all parks are in the system as they rely on campers to take and upload photos. The list of campgrounds with photos is growing.
  • We use rvparkreviews to get a ball park idea. We are not overly picky. We post everywhere we stay in return.
  • We pick places to stay by a) where we're going and b) highest review in the area. So far, 5 months on the road, we haven't had a bad one.

I throw out the high and the low, figuring the high was probably posted by the owner and the low by the nearest competitor. But then you need to read the reviews to see what gripes people had. Don't go back too far because a 2 year old bad review means less then a good one from a month ago.

I have seen some misleading comments that just weren't true. One reviewer claimed that the park had good OTA TV reception, but I could only get one channel. Also, don't go strictly by the price posted in "latest price". It may reflect some discount plan like PA that you don't have or a weekly or monthly rate that you won't get for an overnight.

Also, a bad review doesn't always mean that you shouldn't try the place anyway. If the price of the CG was above normal, the reviewer is usually expecting more and the review will reflect that.
  • I use RV park reviews quite often. You do have to read the reviews carefully to make sure what the reviewer values highly is in line with your own desires. Example: Recent reviews of a park got high marks for the great facilities for young kids. That did not play highly with me. You should also look carefully at the park's web site. I am always skeptical if they don't have any pictures of the actual RV sites.

Basically, what I'm saying is the RV park reviews can be a useful tool, but should be used with some discretion. I do post reviews on the site and try to be as honest, fair and specific as possible.
  • I usually start with Good Sam's search list and also look at the park's website, then search online for reviews.
  • I use the RVParky app to locate campgrounds in the area I'm interested in, then click through to the rvparkreview website to look at the comments. I read several, if available, to get a feel of the average opinion.
  • The site many of us use http://www.rvparkreviews.com/. When looking at the reviews, read "between the lines". That is if you see 10 good reviews and one bad one, what were they complaining about? Do the complaints seem realistic or where their expectations too high?

We typically will not stay at any place that's not rated at least 8 or above. 7 is rated as "good" but we've found through experience that 7 really means mediocre.

Yes, I've posted reviews. I figure people helped me out by posting, I return the favor.
