S. Padre Island KOA

We are intrerested in staying on S. Padre Island for a few days this summer and would like some feedback from anyone with experience staying at the KOA or any other parks on the island. How hard is it getting a space reserved? We have never been that far down the Texas coast.
  • We stayed at the KOA a year ago and enjoyed our stay. The sites were a reasonable size and the campground staff were great. They held hot dog cookouts for us-not sure if that was just a winter time activity or not. We ate several times at the pier and even received discount coupons from the KOA. The food was good and reasonably priced. I don't remember having problems with making reservations but it was a different time of year and probably not be applicable to your situation.
  • Never stayed at the SPI KOA, but winter in Mission, TX and travel to SPI at least twice during the winter. If it were me I would use the County RV park. More reasonable in price and sites are not as crowded.
  • I need to add to the DW's comments. At the time we were there the KOA was nearly empty due to a bunch of cancelations but they still stuck everyone next to each other in one small area. There was no reason for it.
  • Stayed there last September. Nice place, and we thought the site size was fine. There was one palm tree that required me to turn left - away from the park exit - when I pulled out.
While there, walk down to the restaurant on the pier - great seafood at reasonable price.
  • We stayed when it was a private park, the sites are very close. DH open the awning that came within inches of the camper slideout next to us. Our friend who does not camp told us this would be the best one. We did drive over to the county park and did not see any problems other than it is not a KOA or resort. I was glad we only had plans to stay 3 days before moving up to Goose Island SP.

  • I stayed there. Nice little place. Clean. Way nicer than the public park.
