Texas and Arizona aren't as crowded because the northern states above them don't have the populations the eastern states do.
I too predict this is the reason. Just a note, the RGV is green too. We have an orange tree, lemon tree, tangerine tree, and grapefruit tree on our lot as well as 6 different kinds of Palm trees and many flowering shrubs. Neighbors have banana and lime trees. The climate is sub tropical and we have not had a killing frost in 4 years.
