Sam Houston Jones or Palmetto Island SP

We'll have a limited amount of time to spend touring this area and want to spend a night or two at either Fontainebleau SP or Fairview Riverside SP then on to either Palmetto Island or Sam Houston Jones. I say Palmetto Island, cause this way we can drive through NOLA and say we've been there. We're not much on big city doings or night life. Love the Blues, but at my own pace and uncrowded. DW says to book on the SHJ and then start the trek home. Do like to try local food, just not spicy. History, scenic views and home spun folk lore is always a plus.
We camp out of a B and only need electricity, flush toilets and clean showers. What's your opinion?
Thanks

I have stayed at all of the parks except for Fairview, but I have heard nothing but good things about it. Fontainbleau has many large oak trees covered in moss. So it is very scenic. Palmetto is in the swamp and close to Abbeville. The food would be better in Abbeville than any of the other parks. Try Shucks or Blacks. Sam Houston is a very nice park also (we will be there Oct 24th for the Dutch oven cooking). Good food here also, but not as good as you will find in Abbeville.

Other side trips from Palmetto: Go to the docks in Delcambre and buy some shrimp fresh off the boats. And Avery Island Jungle Gardens and Tobassco Plant.
  • Stayed at all the aforementioned parks and I would recommend either Fontenbeau or SaM Houston if you can get in. Palmetto is to noise on weekends for me. Fairview is also a recommend, if you can get in.
  • Being from the area and have visited all of these parks, I would recommend Fountainbleu and Palmetto Island. Both are beautiful clean parks.
