San Francisco CA

As part of our 2017 spring travels we are planning on spending some time in the San Francisco area. I'm looking for recommendations pertaining to RV parks in the San Francisco area that are somewhat easy to get too, and are located close to public transportation into San Francisco.
Thanks Bill
  • Thanks for the information. I'm most interested in a park that is close to public transportation. I have no real desire to drive into the city.
  • We have stayed in San Francisco several times. On our first couple trips we took the BART, cable cars, and city bus to get around. Now we drive and easily find pay parking (even for the big pickup we used to have) near just about every place we want to see.
  • We've stayed in Santa Rosa at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. It honors many camping discounts such as Passport America, Good Sam, Escapees, etc. They have full hookups and is very reasonable.

We then drove on 101 south to the north side of the bay near San Rafael and picked up the ferry at Larkspur Landing. It took us by Alcaltraz Island to the Ferry Building (shops/food) and we had pre-arranged for this small van tour to meet us there. It was an extremely good day of touring with a small group and we visited every top spot of the city. They drove across the Golden Gate for lunch in Sausalito. We were able to get out at each attraction and enjoyed a decent amount of time at the Japanese Garden. Our daughter who lives there was very impressed with the tour.

What RV Parks did you stay in?
  • Another place not mentioned is the Alameda Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. It is very convenient, quiet and safe. It is a gravel parking lot with full hookup (bring long sewer hose as they are in the rear of the space), tight spaces but only $30/night. New bathrooms and with easy access to freeway. I have stayed there numerous times when I visit family or passing through to Southern California. You can drive a short distance to the Bart station and take it into the city. Petaluma KOA would be my second choice if I didn't stay in a park in S.F. Sonoma County will be starting a train service from Santa Rosa to San Rafael early next year or you can take the shuttle mentioned above or Golden Gate Transit bus that stops at most of the Car pool parking lots along the freeway. If you stay at the Santa Rosa fairgrounds, you can also take the Airport Express bus which picks up close to the fairground entrance (would need to drive but has easy parking) to S.F. Airport and catch BART back to S.F. Just some ideas.
