Northern New Mexico is well known for its mountains. Much of it is at fairly high elevation. SF, for instance, is over 7k feet. I live at 8,400 ft. not far from Taos.
There are many, many cultural attractions that you may enjoy (in addition to the many museums and galleries at SF, Taos and Albuquerque). Check out the many current Pueblo reservations in the area as well as the far older remains left by the Ancestral Pueblans (the Anasazi) at Bandelier and especially at Chaco Canyon.
That should keep you busy enough -- though there is much, much more!
