SC Beach Park

Are there any RV Parks on the beach between Charleston and Savannah that I would have a chance of finding a site for a long weekend in June (preferred) or August? I would like to meet my DD and DGD for a long weekend at the beach during June or August. As my DGD will be 2 and they will also likely have their dog, I would like a place that we can walk (pull DGD in wagon) to the beach.

I have a 28ft TT and need a site that is fairly easy to get into. Sometimes I struggle where there are lots of trees to dodge backing.

We prefer state parks and have stayed at Hunting Island, but I don't think finding a site there is likely. At this point, I am more interested in something available at the beach... even if I have to go to a more commercial park. Yes, I know planning ahead is best, but we couldn't plan sooner. Suggestions are much appreciated. Myrtle Beach is too far north, for me to make a weekend trip out of it.

  • Edisto Island State Park.
    Hunting Island S. P.
James Island County Park (right at Charleston)

  • You are also talking about prime time at the beach. It will be difficult to get in, especially over a weekend. Middle to the end of August, may be your best choice as school will be back in session around that time.
  • Some of the state parks were doing some construction this year. Check on that also.
  • Hunting Island State Park would be nice. Just checked and it looks like you luck up with several sites available on weekends starting in August. Just be warned, the sites in the back where these are gets very hot, little breeze and bugs galore. If you don't want to sit outside your RV around the picnic table, the sites would be idea.

Don't let the map fool you, it is less than a 5 minute walk to the beach since the campground goes to the beach. Actually have had some sites closed due to erosion.
  • Looking for somewhere we can walk to beach. So at Edisto, can you walk to beach?

Any hints to find a spot? Seems Hunting Island is booked, there aren't 3 nights available the whole month of June. Is there some where I can get on waiting list/ get notifications of cancellations? If we can't go in June, we could possibly go in August, but would really prefer June.
  • You could do Tybee Island RV Park, just outside of Savannah. There are a couple at Hilton Head Island, but they are not directly on the beach. One is a motorcoach resort so you wouldn't be able to go there with the TT. There is another one and it is located on water, but it's not the beach.
  • You could drive to Folly Beach if u camped at James Island Park. May be able to get a site. There is Huntington Beach at Murrells Inlet north of Charleston.
  • You might find a spot at hunting island state park. Chances are it won't be on the beach but within walking distance. Near Beaufort. You will love the place.
