Screen rooms

We are wintering for the first time in the Sarasota area in Florida in our class A. Will we need a screen room of some kind?
  • Be sure to get a screen room that is designed to keep "No-see-ums" out. Not all screen rooms will keep them out.
  • Depends where you stay.... be sure to ask first. Some parks don't like them on the grass. Same goes for carpeting on the grass.
  • We bought a carefree screen room that connects to our awning. It works great except for heavy winds. When wind speed gets up 25 mph we have to take the screen down, which is a hassle. Staking them down in sandy soil is a bit unstable.
  • We've spent the winter months in Cortez and in Sarasota. Bugs are not as much of a problem in these areas than in other parts of FL and we never felt the need for a screen room.

what type of rig and do you have electric or manual awning
  • What CG in Sarasota? We live in a CG year round in Sarasota. We see very few screen rooms on RV's and plenty of people outside. We normally sit on the park model porch until it gets dark and then head inside.

FYI, raining hard now as we wait for the tropical storm planned for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to winter as the snowbirds arrive. Safe travels all!
  • Depends on how close you are to water or wooded areas. We have lived in Port Charlotte(about 35 miles south of Sarasota) for 10 years and have never felt the need for a screen room. Decide when you get there.

We stay in Cortez every winter and noseeums are not an issue, never had a problem with them...we have a Carefree awning too and only used it two winters, now with the way the sites are set up we can't use it but we don't really miss it either.
