For Sequoia, it's easier to come in through Hwy 180 and Kings Canyon National Park. General Sherman is about 30 minutes from Kings Canyon NP. There is no great camping option. I like the campground in Grant's Grove (Sequoia Grove of Kings Canyon) and love Cedar Grove down in valley for Kings Canyon but no hookups as you stated.
There is an RV Park on Hwy 180 between Fresno and Kings Canyon but I can't find it online with a quick google. I didn't try Good Sam. It's not much more than a glorifed parking lot but I think it has hook-ups. There are sequoias at Mariposa Grove in Yosemite but not as big as General Sherman and Grant the best I remember.
