Shaw Direct

I have just upgraded my PVR and LNB's for our yearly trip to Quartzsite. Now I'm wondering if anyone is having any problems getting the receiver to tune the satellites in since I won't be receiving any signal from the second satellite? Or do you only tune in the old satellite?
  • Actually, Shaw uses three satellites, the old two and one new (recent) one. You should have no problems in Arizona, I have no problem all the way down to just outside of Puerto Vallarta Mexico.
  • You're right Mountaineer42,they use three. Do you have the new LNB's?
  • We have the new LNB and we spend time in Arizona and southern California. We haven't had a problem aiming a manual dish or now an auto dish on the roof. You look for one of the 2 older sats to aim, not the new third one. You won't get programs from the third sat as it's ranged and doesn't get signals anywhere south of the Canadian border, but most of the same programs exist on the two older sats.

By the way, you need two coax lines into your RV to use the PVR to record programs, I'm not sure if the PVR works with only one coax line, I couldn't get mine to work just with one (maybe you have to do some programming to eliminate the PVR portion).

I found my 630 PVR to be very erratic on only one coax. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes it worked for a while, then it didn't. You need two coax.
  • Just another hint about Shaw. Don't mix and match LNB's. We upgraded to new LNB at home, the RV had the old LNB, the receiver was configured by Shaw for the new LNB and wouldn't receive anything when I tried to use the old LNB in the RV. Shaw was good enough to re-program the receiver when were on the road to use it, but it was a bit of a hassle.

They sent me a new LNB gratis for the RV.
  • I had the old PVR and LNB so I have already rewired to two coax cables. As stated, the PVR will not record on one coax cable only. We only use Shaw Direct in our trailer for the winter and Shaw Cable Gateway is used in the house so no worry about mixing LNB's.
Shaw direct was kind enough to give me the new PVR and LNB's for $30.00 which was the tax. They did not want to lose my business.

It actually works all the way to the Guatemalan border. I have Americans approaching me about gray market Shaw all the time. Dish & direct only work as far south as mazatlan, if that.
  • in mazatlan, it works but best with the large dish. or the winegard sat dish on top.

All my concerns were unfounded. Everything is working great!!!:)
