So we plan for a year to do our wild west trip, not thinking that the government would actually let the national parks close...so we arrive in Glenwood Springs yesterday to find out that our reservations in Arches are no more, our reservations in Zion...no more. Hope we get our money back.The in-demand state parks are full because everyone is scrambling to get a spot. We have no problem with boondocking at all...we are just new to it in the wild west. We will find our way with it...can go for five to seven days with our tanks/water/food supply. We like boondocking but it would have been REALLY nice to see our national parks which hold much of what we came to see (along with state and just being out here).Just needed to vent a titchy bit.

I mentioned it in another post. For years when the gate was closed I just drove around the gate and never had a problem. However. I spoke to some tourists yesterday afternoon in Cody and the park is closed but they have someone working at the gate that is getting paid to stop traffic from driving through the Park. I guess part of this is to just cause inconvenience.

The shutdown affects us in more way than we think. For some it's a nuisance, for others it's much more serious. This is what happens when we let children play without helmets!

Well for what it's worth, maybe you'll have a good reason to saddle up and make this trip again in the future. Something good hasta come from this madness. I'm an air traffic controller in Atlanta. We're considered essential and have to work but we're not getting paid as of last Tuesday. We've essentially been furlough'ed without pay but still have to work. We've been told we'll get back pay when the shutdown is over. Anybody wanna bet???:MHappy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

I would think twice before going around the gate. Some rangers are still working and if charged with trespassing it will be a federal offense.DH got to go for work for free again today as he is an ESSENTIAL employee. We're hoping he gets back pay, but I doubt it also.

We have a reservation at a Texas COE park for the end of October. Just tried recreation.gov( where I made the res), and it is down until further notice.

We will need a plan B.

So I know its none of our business because we are foreigners etc etc, but I wonder how this will effect the gazillions of canuckian snowbirds headed across the border in the next couple weeks...us included. just sayin.....

Moab commercial campgrounds

Sand Flats also is still open, but campsites not reservable, but the facebook states that there are sites available.

Sand Hollow SP has (currently) 1 non electric site, Kodachrome has a bunch of sites, both electric and non, Quail Creek is walkup only
