If you search Rafter J Bar here, you'll find a lot of comments on it, most of them favourable. Been there several times, the location is ideal to getting to most everything in the central Black Hills area, and even access to the northern and southern parts as well.
Only drawback (and I qualify this as maybe a drawback -- depends on your perspective) is that cell phone service within Rafter J can be spotty. Have stayed in the Ranch Camp and Lower Ranch Camp, and in both cases, Verizon coverage was occasional. Have also heard that TV/Satellite coverage can also be spotty, depending on what section you're in. That said, we didn't go there to watch TV or play games on cell phones;) :B
