Morgan City La. has a nice park on Lake Palourde. Cajun restaurants, grocery, culture abound. We liked the peninsula sites by the boat basin. Check out the Carillon that chimes on the hour.
For NOLA , Bayou Segnette state park. Minutes from the Huey Long bridge just west, a minute to the daily fresh fish market to the east on 90. Every taste of La. culture and cuisine close by.
No visit to NOLA is complete without a Creole brunch at the Court Of Two Sisters in the Quarter, between Bourbon and Royal .
