You might try Escalante UT, there are a lot of Slot Canyons to explore. And a lot of other interesting areas, include a lot of 4WD trails and ghost towns. There are a couple of FHU campgrounds in town. We spent 8 days there a couple of years ago and had plenty to do. I'm not sure what you mean by a bunch of people but the town is quite small and once you are out in the country side you won't see many people.
