Weird how things work. I just answered your question yesterday and today I had a need to visit the Ocean Breeze CG.

Story: I have ( had ) a TT for sale and a buyer called this AM to see it. We agreed on a price and I agreed to take it to a CG and hook it up for them to check it out. Called OB and we hooked it up there. Appears nicely maintained and my short visit to the john showed a nice clean bath / shower area.

Now for the downside....I asked the owner what he would charge for a 1 hour hookup. He said I don't know. I offered 20.00. He said he would need 40.00!!. I asked nightly rate and I think he said either 47 or 49. I was in a rush and a bind for time and paid the 40.00. He will never see me again! What a ripoff. He claimed they were about full and turning people away. I saw 5 empty sites and didn't go past the first section. It may work for you but watch your wallet!!

Not sure about Southport, can't think of a CG there. Closest to Southport is Oak Island CG http://www.oakislandcampground.com/area-info/ Not sure if it is more of a CG or a trailer park / CG, never been there.

There is a new CG ( last 5 years ) in the Holden Beach area. It is called Ocean Breeze http://oceanbreezefamilycampground.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=4&pid=169#top_display_media . I have not been there in the last year or so but did ride through a couple of times after it opened. Appears to be a nice place. It is about 1 mile from the beach. There is also the Holden Beach fishing pier / CG. It is the only oceanfront CG in SE NC. I drive by it almost daily and to be honest it is not impressive to me. VERY tight sites, especially when the season is in full swing.

There is also Carolina Beach State Park which is about a 1 hour ferry ride across the Cape Fear River. It is on the Wilmington side of the river.
