We made a trip similar from Kentucky a few years ago. We went across Missouri to Colorado and Pike's Peak, then Utah to the national parks there. From there into Nevada across the Extraterrestrial Highway which led us into California at Yosemite. We spent a good deal of time in Yosemite but it's very crowded and traffic is bad in summer months. From there we went into San Francisco to the Golden Gate Bridge and up I5 to Redwood National Park. Then we crossed into Oregon and visited the Pacific. Crossed at Grant's Pass but missed Crater Lake. After this we drove into Washington to Mt. St. Helens which I'd wanted to see for 20 years. After this we crossed Idaho and drove up into Alberta then back down into Montana and Yellowstone. We stopped at many other interesting sites I didn't list to save time but you'll pick your own stops. I made no campground reservations because you can never be sure where you'll be from day to day. But when we did want to stay overnight I had no problem finding a campground no matter the state. It was something of a whirlwind trip but I had a plan while moving so quickly. We now know which places we want to see in the future and stay longer so next time we'll be making reservations and seeing even more.
