We have stayed at both parks a lot. It is easier to get into St. George than to get into the beach campground at St. Joe. We always liked them both a lot. However, when we we went to St. George last year we were overrun by large Diamond Back Rattlesnakes. We were told not to kill them that they are protected in the park. I do not think that I will ever get my wife to go back there.
We were on site 25 at SGI July 15th thru the 23rd and I saw an absolutely huge Diamondback Rattler on the site next to us (26) middle of the day sunning. Snakes do not bother me at all having been raised up outside and an avid outdoorsman. However, this snake was pushing at least 5ft and diameter of a softball! Had this thing struck one of the many children running around the park and the isolation of the CG it would be terrible. Also saw a very large cottonmouth moccasin near the bay that wasn't a great deal smaller. Beautiful park and CG, but that rattler shook me up for a few days. I didn't dare step out at night without a very good flashlight! Lol
