Staying at fairgounds

How many of you camp or have camped at fairgrounds? I was just made aware that it is an option even when there is no fair going on. For those that have, do you usually need reservations? Any experiences? Thanks.

  • In Prescott, AZ, of the RV parks we've seen there so far, the fairgrounds is a better option. We have nothing against fairgrounds.

  • Another app useful for finding city, county & fairground campgrounds is the Ultimate Public Campground Project.

The range of services at fairgrounds goes from a parking spot in a field or paved parking lot to individual spaces with full hookups. Usually inexpensive, but you do have to check schedules. Many sponsor events other than the fair that restrict usage.
  • Have stayed at several. Some take reservations and some don't. One was leased and operated by another rv park in same area. They may also have restrictions when can and cannot stay depending on other activities etc. Pretty much across the board not unlike private parks.
  • Stayed at several.... some good some bad. Some were full hook ups and some were parking lots or fields.
  • Did you check Free Campgrounds? There are probably some fairgrounds on that site that allow you to stay.

There are fairgrounds near us but, I don't think they allow overnighting or camping unless there is a camping type event scheduled.
  • We have stayed at various fairgrounds. Most are basic, inexpensive & near empty on weekdays.
  • I'm sure the policies vary from one place to another. Best thing to do is call to inquire about space, prices, etc. And some of them will be listed in uscampgrounds.info--a great place for info on all publicly-owned campsites.

When I stayed at the Faribault County fairgrounds, in Blue Earth, MN, there was no one else there camping and we never saw any fairgrounds personnel. There was a sign posted with the rules, and a box for donations. The site was free for up to 3 days, with full hookups. (We did leave a donation.) It was on a gravel lot with 4 other sites. Not scenic, but quiet, & fine for an overnight.
