Stops on way to Florida from Eastern PA

Heading down Ft Myers in February and I have booked the Enfield Rocky Mountain KOA so far for our first night. Does anyone have suggestions for a 2nd night? I was thinking maybe Jacksonville area or should would go a little further? Would love somewhere within walking distance to restaurants if there is such a thing. If not, no big deal. We have only taken one trip so far and went to Myrtle Beach and stopped at Americamps in Ashland both ways. We liked it there. Thank you for any suggestions.

  • We stop at KiKi RV Park, think Exit 5, GA, near FL line. Cracker Barrel across the highway, Popeye's Chicken next door at gas station, chicken good.
KiKi is part of the motel, nice long pull thru's. Not wide, but very sufficient for a night or two. Also Passport America.
  • I'll second Coastal Georgia RV Resort. Very nice. I'd also recommend 301 from Jax to Ocala instead of taking 4 through Orlando. The traffic through Orlando can be a nightmare. 301 is also shorter.

In Jacksonville, I've stayed at Pecan Park RV but there's nothing within walking distance that I recall (though, we drove in late each time). They're all pull through concrete spots so you can stay hitched up.

Otherwise, if you go on a bit further down the road- you could spend the night at the Pilot/Flying J in St. Augustine, FL. It has a Denny's in the truck stop (yes, yuck- I know :)).

They're the only places I've stopped at recently.

I second Pecan Park... Its part of our southern trip most years... It is clean . nice area , decent pool.. The ONLY down side I could come up with was the air traffic on some days... made it hard to sit outside... JAX Airport is due east....

We've stayed twice- literally pulled in between 10 and 11:30pm and left the next morning between 9 and 10am. I didn't get to enjoy the plans or any of its attractions.

Kind of spendy for that kind of an overnight, but it's just so dang convenient.
  • 5-6 hours from Jacksonville to Ft Myers. I would take I-10 west from Jacksonville to US 301 exit 343. In Ocala take Hwy FL 40 west to I-75 then south. Watch your speed through the small towns along US301.
  • Thanks all! Are these all an easy access to head on down to ft. Meyers after? My husband drives and I plan the stops. LOL
  • I recommend The Crooked River state park in St. Mary's Georgia

  • We stopped at the Jacksonville KOA a couple of times and would recommend this park. They are very friendly, easy pull thru sites and they have a free pancake or waffle breakfast. They also offer an evening meal of pizza, pulled pork BBQ, or ribs, delivered to your site, this is not free but is convenient. We also stopped at Pecan Park, nice park, easy access also. The down side would be the park is under the flight path of some noisey planes, especially if some jets do a fly by from the NAS. I actually got used to the noise after a while. There is a flea market next door that is open on weekends, within walking distance. If you go in as a Passport member they require a minimum three night stay. Good luck.
