Strawberry Lodge August 2016

We stop there once in awhile to eat. My grandparents lived in Kyburz and my grandmother worked at Freds Place which was torn down to make a 4 lane highway that never happened.

This place has been around for years. Way back when, there was a covered "alley way" between the main lodge and the building with the ski shop. Behind the ski shop were some dormitory style rooms. On a less cold day in winter, the snow would melt some and you'd get a moat running through the alley way and down the hallway in the dormitory area - have to cross the moat in the morning just to get to the bathroom. The lodge proper was always very classy looking and the staff were great. And they always had a live band on Saturday nights.

Across the road is the sledding hill. It's been real built up now. In our day, it was very simple. There was the wide straight section, and on the other side of a line of trees was a narrow curvy and bumpy trail. Take that curvy one on a saucer and if you angled yourself just right on the sides of the rocks and bumps, you could propel yourself clean across Hwy-50. I was the champ at that. The traffic is so thick now, you'd never make it across before a car came along.
