Sounds like someone should be fired.
Not every group of college students will trash the place. Not every trashing of the place is done by college students.
I go to Lake Shasta every year and I think the USFS does a great job. I'm not going to blame them for the actions of a few jerks - and I'm not going to blame every college student for the actions of a few jerks. IF the fraternity IS responsible (so far, it's just been confirmed that a single cooler had the frat insignia on it - not that it was a frat party), then banning that fraternity from camping at Lake Shasta is legitimate. But banning all college students because of a few is excessive. - toedtoesExplorer IIII don't think anyone is saying it's OK that it happened. I think what people are trying to point out is that it's not the "young generation" that is doing all of it. This has been going on for years by every generation. It's NOT a generational problem - it's a PEOPLE PROBLEM.
- colliehaulerExplorer IIII have met a lot more good young people then bad. We had bad apples in our generation as well. Like someone else said with all the instant media you hear about it now.
I still think the offenders should be made to clean it up or community service. - BumpyroadExplorer

Oregon College students spending a big weekend and leaving lots of mess to clean up is really nothing new. If you need documentation search the archives of the Redding Record Searchlight newspaper. Nothing new here, move along to another topic that can be tisk tisk'ed about.

so that makes it OK to keep doing?
bumpy - pitchExplorer IIYep this dang generation is gonna destroy the world with it's me,me,me attitude.
I remember vividly, through chemically enhanced rainbow vision how pristine and pure our party and concert sites were kept, back in the 60's and 70's. Yep when we staggered out of the woods you could eat off the **** floor it was so clean.
Freakin younger generation anyway.
Git the hell off my lawn boy !!!!!! - coolbreeze01ExplorerSo, the USFS allows college students to camp, knowing full well they will trash the place?

You all act like nothing like that happened when you were kids. It did. I can sight you a whole raft of incidents from 50 and 100 years ago just as bad or worse then this incident. So many posts blaming the todays kids as being something worse than what is really going on. Nothing has changed, it's still the "many" getting blamed for what a "few" do.
They are not children, they are adults, legal to vote and most likely legal to drink.
Somewhere in that fraternity the idea to keep that place better for the next person broke down. - 4X4DodgerExplorer II

X2. It's great that so many here were brought up "properly" and have "respect" and so on. But there have been just as many incidents like this caused by people of YOUR generation (insert any generation here).
I think the both of you might remember that those of us brought up in the late 50's and 60's were THE MOST MALIGNED and criticized and often despised generation of probably all of American history.
Long hair, disrespect of authority, anti-war demonstrations, the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) The Black Panthers, Hippies, Yippies et al. So your complaints of being criticized by us for bad manners ring hollow to our ears.
And Yes we too were lumped together as a whole for purposes of criticism. Remember if you will a little history; Kent State a peaceful anti war demonstration...US college kids killed by our own National Guard troops...afterwords some people interviewed for the CBS evening news said "They deserved it".
So please dont cry too loudly of how we are maligning YOU unfairly. We have been there for real and with real bullets, police batons and attack dogs.
Some of these old Codgers who write here forget our own history but not me. But I still maintain there is a real diminution of manners in the last 50 years as a civil society overall just in daily person to person relations and in incidents like the one above.
PS and Oh yea we left a hell of a mess at Woodstock too. - tpiExplorerhttp://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-oregon-frat-trashes-lake-shasta-20160525-snap-story.html
Oregon fraternity suspended after disgraceful trashing of northern CA lake.
Thoughts:
No generation has exemption from jerks and losers. Blanket condemnation of the kids these days has been going on forever, and there are many historical quotes dating back hundreds of years.
And one silver lining-did any of you notice the Shasta water level in the pics? Nearly up to the top of the shoreline!
