If you're lastly in the Tampa area & eventually heading north from there you might want to check out Florida's Nature Coast. It's 1-2 hours north of Tampa along the Gulf. The two towns you would want to research for camping are Homosassa and Crystal River.
Do some research on the various campgrounds in those areas. We stay at Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River, but there are several campgrounds in the area. Some are west of U.S.19 and border the Homosassa River or the Crystal River, while our CG is a few miles east of 19, not far from the local airport.
The Nature Coast isn't a beachy area although there is a small beach west of CR on Halls River Rd. Don't take your RV out there. This area is known for their manatees, kayaking, fishing, bike trails, and is more rural than you'll find along the Atlantic or south of I-4. The seafood joints are always good.
Suggested route from south of Tampa would be I-75 north to Brooksville exit and follow 98 westward to U.S.19 and then north.
