Taking up Pickleball

Our winter home Resort in Casa Grande had 2 lighted courts on our last stay and they are adding 2 more this summer.

We got to observe and decided we would take it up this next winter and ordered the paddles & balls and are good to go.

Will get some practice time in before we head down in December and are looking forward to playing with our friends, and/or new friends, at the Resort.

  • We're traveling from state to state this summer and we're able to play Pickleball daily. You can find public places to play almost everywhere. It's a growing sport for seniors and they're even teaching it in elementary schools now. I predict it will take over tennis which we played, also.
  • We enjoyed our first snowbirding experience (a three-month stay in Florida) this past winter.

In preparation for the stay I asked for and received a pickleball paddle for Christmas. This was going to be my first time playing the sport.

My first day on a court I pulled a muscle in my shoulder, scraped up my knee, bruised a finger, and twisted my ankle......but I fell in love with the game.
With an ankle brace in place and a new outlook on the game and my physical limits (can't get to all the shots so don't kill yourself trying), subsequent days were injury free.

I'm already looking forward to playing again this winter.......
  • Where we stay in Casa Grande is supposed to have Pickle Ball courts ready this winter. I am looking forward to learning the game
  • Just be carefully, people get hurt! Start slowly and work up to higher levels of play. It keeps your mind active doing the scoring and rotation of serve!

  • Pickleball is good exercise and a lot of fun. Meet the nicest people. Most of our friends we've made since retiring and wintering in Florida are picklers.
