Teddy Roosevelt Natl Pk & Yellowstone trip report

We are one week into our 16 day trip from MN to these two great parks with a return leg thru the Black Hills/Custer State Park. We're having a fantastic time. We did our first Walmart lot overnight in Jamestown ND and then stayed 2 nights in Medora which was awesome. We camped at the Medora Campground which wasn't over the top but it worked well and it was nice to have full hook ups. We rode horses in the park at Peaceful Valley trail rides where we rode next to Buffalo. We also went to the Medora Musical which we'd highly recommend. I'd forgotten how beautiful Teddy Roosevelt was since last visiting as a kid. We then went to Billings and stayed overnight at the Yellowstone River RV park and Campground. Great stay there for nearly half the price of the nearby KOA. We'd planned on a lot stay at the Billings Cabelas which has potable water and a dump station but we wimped out due to 90+ weather. We then stayed 4 nights at Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone which was nicer than we had anticipated. We had more room than some sites allowing us to extend our awning and have our normal set up with a patio rug and table. We are now at the West Yellowstone KOA which we really like. We've got a deluxe outside site with a patio, swing, & table and the kids love the pool building which was what brought us here instead of Grizzly's in town. We've like the KOA so much we have skipped the park today to relax and enjoy the campground! And we are "State Park" camping type people. We've seen a ton of wildlife and seen most of the park as well as nearby Grand Teton Natl Park. Having a fantastic trip.

Sounds nice.Got any pictures of your campsites?

    I'll post some photos soon.
  • I always recommend staying at the Medora CG which has a pool for those hot afternoons. TR used to have a Ranger tour of the prairie dog colony and why the dogs and buffalo (bison?) get along so well together; but I forgot why!
  • Good to hear it's going well, and that yours went well too, rv2go. We probably passed you at some point (we were in YNP weekend before last). Where to now, Andy?
  • Glad you are having a good time in Yellowstone. One of my favorite places. We just left a week ago. Stayed one week at Madison CG and one week at Mammoth CG. Including a loop trip over Chief Joseph Hwy and the Beartooth Hwy., we drove almost a 1000 miles exploring Yellowstone. Some of our highlights can be seen in the link in my Sig.
