The hot springs pool there is great (shh! don't tell anyone I'm from Glenwood Spirngs!). Stunning views right from the pool. Last time we were there, we watched a black bear forage on the hillside across the street from the pool.
Don't know the capabilities of your 4x4, but a drive into Yankee Boy Basin should certainly be on your agenda. If it's a dually, you won't get as far, but the flowers are still worth the drive.
Take a day trip to Silverton. Very touristy but authentic wild west town. Busy in the middle of the day when the trains are in town, but quiet once they leave in the afternoon.
Telluride is beautiful too, but quite upscale anymore. Just drive on through town to the head of the valley for some amazing views.
As noted, Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP is another easy day trip from Ouray.
