Tell me about Ouray, Co

We are thinking about doing a last min trip in late Aug to Colorado. Ouray looks pretty cool on google earth. Would it be a good place to take a 18mo old boy who loves to run and climb already? Our main objective is to get out of the heat for a bit and see some beautiful scenery. We have a TH trailer and Diesel 4x4

  • One of our very favorite places. You will love it. There is a beautiful park right in town that your baby would enjoy. The Amphitheater campground is one of the prettiest places I've ever seen.
  • We stayed in the KOA just east of Ouray and were very pleased with it. Ridgeway State Park in also nearby and is quite nice. Oh, I noticed you have an 18 month old, not a teenager. Have a great trip.
  • Yes, I think Ouray would be a great place for an 18 year old who like to run and climb. There are many trails he could take. A drive up toward Yankee Boy Basin would be worth it for the views and the wild flowers. One of the main activities in the area is Jeep touring and rental. We've always come in from Montrose and have not towed over the "Million Dollar Highway" from Durango to Ouray (or the reverse, for that matter.) But many people have. That is a personal choice for those who are familiar with the route.

Depends on where you are coming from, but I highly recommend Ouray for a visit.
  • Ouray is a beautiful place - spend time in Arches for sure. There are a lot of places to stay but I do not recommend Spanish Trail.
