Having read the question, I set the temp at 40 in my HOUSE and it was 1 degree the other morning in N GA. All I do is turn turn the water off but I do not have any lines in an unheated area of the house. I do drain the water from the fire sprinkler system in the unheated MH bay that is attached to my house.
If the power goes out for very long when it's really cold my son knows to go and lite the gas fireplace.
