Tetons any one?

We are planning a trip up to the Jackson Wyoming are this summer and need some information on camping in the area, We will be in a truck camper but will only be using the campsite as base while we motorcycle around. Just need basic amenities, I do not want to stay in a state park due to the hosing they give you on everything from showers to ice.
Any input on sites to see?
  • If you don't like to be "hosed", you may want to reconsider your trip. You won't find anything resembling a bargain in Jackson, Wyoming. It is not a low budget destination.
  • The 'Tetons' is not a state park. It's a national park - quite different.

For a basic campground, we always stay at Gros Ventre or Colter Bay campgrounds IN the parks themselves. There's also Colter Bay RV which is next to Colter Bay campground. It has full hookups.

Since you're in a small RV (truck camper), Signal Mountain campground in the park might work for you.

Here's the park's official web site with lots of good information, including campgrounds.

    Teton National Park

X2. They also have a nice convenience store with fuel, grocery store and restaurant on property.

  • Not sure what "basic amenities" means to you, but we always stay at the Gros Ventre NPS campground when visiting the Tetons. They have bathrooms with running water and flush toilets, but no showers unless it's something new. One loop with electric, other loops with no hookups. Don't know whether they sell ice, but they do sell firewood.

If you want to go cheaper you can try the Atherton Creek Forest Service campground on Slide Lake about 5 miles east of the little town of Kelly. No hookups and their bathrooms are likely pit toilets. The camp host sells firewood.

About 5 miles further out on the same road, which becomes gravel after Atherton Creek, is the Crystal Creek Forest Service campground. Definitely a one hole pit toilet there.
