texas hill country and san antonio

As retired full timers when we travel, we prefer to park the motor home and do "day trips". Our MH is our mobile hotel so we like a campground with full hook ups, and good cable. We like the RV park to be near major roads that we will be using to tour the area. We will be in the Texas Hill Country, the second week of April for 2-3 weeks. I am looking for information on where to stay. We like, wineries and breweries, scenic drives, shopping in different shops.. and sight seeing.
I have looked at RVPark reviews and there are too many choices. can anyone help me with their favorites?

Thanks
  • thanks for all the suggestions! KOA is full until April 16 so no go. Will call others today, and hopefully find a great location. Lesson learned..
  • When we went to San Antonio in February we stayed at The Travelers Rest RV Park:
    2617 Roosevelt Ave.
    San Antonio, Texas 78214
    (210) 532-8310
It is a nice place which is close to a Mission (About 1 mile), The Alamo and the River Walk (about 3 miles). It is safe, attractive and friendly.
  • We have stayed at Hill Country RV Resort in New Braunfels and really enjoyed it. It is about a block and half off of I-35. I think exit 184.
  • Buckhorn Lake in Kerrville. Excellent choice. Easy access, big rig friendly.
Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredricksburg. Full hook ups. Nice quiet park.
Admiralty RV Resort in San Antonio. Near the entertainment triangle consisting of Six Flags over Texas, the San Antonio Zoo and Sea World San Antonio. See the Alamo and the Caverns while there....Dennis
  • East View RV Ranch Georgetown, Texas. Right next to the Toll Rd 130 HWY? where the speed limit is 85mph to Austin. Very nice family owned park with great rates.
  • The KOA is ok but we prefer Buckhorn Lake RV Resort - much plusher.
  • Scenic drives is most any where in the hill country.
Wineries and shops makes Fredericksburg a good bet. Check the Wine Road 290 web site. And Fredericksburg is a shopping destination for those from Austin, San Antonio, etc. on the weekends.
The KOA about 3 miles east on US 290 gets good reviews as well as Fredericksburg RV Park just south of downtown.
Kerrville is another good choice with shops and RV parks. Boerne has lots of shops. Really just too many good hill country places to try to narrow it down to just a couple.
  • Just spent a week at the Fredericksburg RV Resort - fits all your requirements, plus very convenient to downtown. Best reserve NOW.

As far as San Antonio, can't help. We always stay at the 1000 Trails at Lakehills, and they don't have cable or over-the-air signal.

  • Well, we like to stay at the KOA in Fredericksburg. In fact, we will be going there in April and hoping the Bluebonnets will be nice this year.

You have access to San Antonio, Austin, and Kerrville for easy day trips. Also the Willow City Loop for wildflower viewing. Luckenbach is just down the road. Wineries all around.

But, if you do not have reservations for the first two weeks in April, NOW is the time!
