Iam on the road....stayed in a Texas State park in N Texas.....It was fairly run down and unkept compared to fed parks.....but the real kicker was the cost......$5.00 /each/per day entrance plus $16....

Thanks, Techwriter for the proof. As an aside, I see that Louisiana and Arkansas state parks are even better rated which is exactly my experience after camping in them. And Arkansas has no daily fees, and you can reserve a specific site.

As for the DPS (no such thing as DMV in Texas), sounds like you had an unfortunate experience there too. Last time I had to renew my license, I called over to the local DPS office, got a person on the phone, and asked how the wait looked. They told me there were 5 people in line, so come on over! I was in and out in 15 minutes, no problem. My son recently went for his Learner's permit and we had the same good experience. Sounds like you weren't so lucky.
Or, maybe, luck has nothing to do with it.
