True. The exterior scenes of "The Shining" were filmed as above.
The interior of the hotel was filmed in England.
The Stanley is also where Stephen King stayed and got the idea for the novel. You can still stay in room 217 where King and his wife stayed, the only guests in the motel that night!
I went to my friends wedding at the Stanley many decades ago. The view of RMNP out the windows definitely kept my attention more than the ceremony at the front of the room! (Hope they don't read this. :W)
