This shot was taken near Timber Creek Campground on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, at around 8900 feet. Near the campground, we hiked down to the headwaters of the Colorado River, which is really just a creek at this point. Even without the time exposure (below), we could actually see the reflection of the Milky Way in the water, which is something we've never seen before:
As we were taking this shot, there were two or three bull elk in the forest around us, bugling at each other. We were very careful not to get too close to them.
