I cannot believe that you have exhausted the western attractions. We have been going to the CO-WY-ID-UT-AZ-NM area for 25 years off and on. With trips to the NE, CA and the NW interspersed. And have yet to come to the point where we think we've seen it all. We've spent 2 weeks just in YNP and could spend another month there easily. There is a whole section of Utah that we haven't touched-the central area above Capitol Reefs. We've barely touched Wyoming or northern Colorado.
Our technique now is to find a base camp and explore the area around there. We stayed a couple of weeks in Cortez CO and did day trips to Canyonlands, Canyon of the Ancients, Hovenweep, Valley of the Gods, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde, Goosenecks and Natural Bridges. Then moved up to Monticello for another week of Arches and Canyonlands.
I'll bet you haven't been to the great majority of those places and that is just in one small corner of the four corners. We planned to do the same in Wyoming and northern Colorado last summer but had some problems that prevented a trip.
But again Banff and the provide sights you will not find in the lower states.
