Where are there any high elevations east of the Mississippi? The highest mountain is lower than the streets of Denver.
Oh now, come on. How about Clingmans Dome (6643) Mt Mitchell (6684) Mt Washington (6288) or Mt Rogers (5729) all higher than the Mile High City.
Got a sticker that I bought at the top of Mt Evans. 14,000'. Now THAT is elevation for a vehicle. The diesel was gasping.
Been to the top of Mt Mitchell too. PUH! It is in the trees. Didn't bother with the sticker.
I was just pointing out that there are mountains more than a mile high in the east.
BTW, driving to the top of a 14'er is considered "cheating" here in Colorado. Lace up those hiking boots and hike to the top. If you think your diesel was gasping . . . ;)
Ken, you need to understand that if you come from a BOAT and LIVE on the Eastern Shore - a big wave is a mountain - they call the shore Level not Flat.
Let's not try to hurt us flat lander's - those 14'er's are for you Crazy People - (especially to hike up) - but they are truly BEAUTIFUL TO SEE
jmho,
