Hubby and I are 57 and 58...not retired but self employed...we work in florida for the winter (how convienent:B). In a few years we will give up art shows and just travel (budget travel that is).
PENSIONS! They are mostly a thing of the past. My father had one and so did my hubby's dad. We don't nor do we know anyone who has one. HOWEVER, when our sons started looking for jobs we helped them find Fed/State jobs so they will both have a pension (daughter not so lucky...a 401k). Many of our generation and our children's don't have them. We have also told our kids that if they don't save (even with pension) they might not be so happy with their retirement lifestyle and even though it is hard for them to dream that far ahead, they do need to think about it..
Hubby and I have saved a lot money and worked hard to build a retirement that will enable us to travel in our rv. But many folks
spend big now not thinking about the future.
Health issues are also a problem but supposedly folks are living longer (needing more retirement money).
I agree with another poster in that sometimes a little selfishness is a good thing..and take off.
