- tatestExplorer IIWhile there are large RV communities in Arizona and the Texas Rio Grande Valley, and there are planned, restricted retirement communities in Arizona (e.g. Sun City West) along the lines of The Villages, the two things do not really mix. I suspect folk buying into these communities are doing it to be with "people just like us" and those living in RVs and moving around frequently are in their view something different.
But it is not difficult to be near one of these places, as you will find them everywhere where the winter climate is moderate. There are Sun City developments in Arizona, Florida, Texas, South Carolina, the Texas Hill Country. You will find similar but unrelated communities in California, both the desert southwest and the East Bay area.
You will also find RV Resorts (mostly ownership) in the same areas, but the RV resorts will be separate, as well as being separate from the sometimes massive lower cost manufactured housing and RV park model communities clustered nearby. - MinnCamperExplorerWe just got back from Palm springs and there is an RV resort there called Emerald RV and Golf. It's pristine with paved roads, a golf course running through, 7 swimming pools, etc. etc. It's spendy, but close to lots to do and you don't have to drive on the freeway to get somewhere. https://www.emeralddesert.com/
- Cloud_9ExplorerLots of good information, thanks again to all. The idea of an active senior community together with proximity to shopping and medical facilities has great appeal as we get older, but still want to travel as long as we are able. (Besides, she wants a golf cart :)

While Casa Grande is ok I think you might be happier with Superstition Views in Gold Canyon, just east of Mesa. We found that 2 weeks in Casa Grande was long enough to see everything, and the wind from the west brought a lot of 'smells' from the feedlots, not to mention much more dust that the east side of the Phoenix area. Once in the 'Valley of the Sun' there are arts centers, museums, shopping, restaurants, flee markets, major medical centers, all within short drives, plus you can literally be up in the Superposition Mountains within a few minutes. We spend the winters in Mesa, and love our location.
Views is selling now at full tilt! Within a another 1 or 2 it will be resells only. We have spend 6 winters (with two winters off) at Canyon Vistas which the Superstition Views is connected with and love it. - Me_AgainExplorer IIIIn Surprise is a long time resort named Happy Trails.

However traffic outside the park on Bell Road is extreme!

What she is looking for I guess is a Villages retirement with rv ports and full hookups. No such critter I suspect.

Oh yes there is!
Deer Creek RV Golf Resort off SR 27 near Davenport, FL, is exactly that. It is located just south of the I-4 & SR 27 intersection and the traffic is usually quite heavy. Close to Disney, but not to the beaches. The usual fine restaurants, attractions, and medical facilities surround the area. Our favorites included running up to Claremont to Spiro's Pizza and Italian Restaurant, The Bee's RV Resort for their chicken(Wednesdays) and fish (on Fridays) dinners. And while up that way, we always restock at Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards. Love that Southern Red! - BarbaraOKExplorerWhile Casa Grande is ok I think you might be happier with Superstition Views in Gold Canyon, just east of Mesa. - joebedfordNomad III don't know if you remember the 60s show "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan. I think The Villages was modeled after the set in that show - and that show was VERY creepy.

Wow! Thanks to all for the great feedback. DW, says thanks too, helped focus and narrow her original question.

Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort in Casa Grande, AZ. Just what the DW is looking for. Check it out. - John_JoeyExplorerWhen I was growing up the old farmers had a saying for the elderly that would do strange things. They would say they were "in their second childhood." I always thought what a nice way of saying something.
Now that I'm older, and visiting these retirement communities that saying keeps popping up in my head. Line dancing to Kiss are for those that are living their second childhood I think.
They're having a great time, and I'm very happy for them. For me, I will keep kicking and screaming as long as I can. Sooner or later the day will come, but hopefully not today.
