In nearly 30 years of camping I have never been a victim, nor know anyone who has in any CG we've ever been to. We've never felt the need to lock everything up at night. Occasionally depending on the number and demeanor of any kids in the CG, I may lock our bikes (they aren't cheap ones), but usually there is no need to. We do lock our trailer when we go somewhere.
There was one Dane county, WI CG that we used to go to that had issues with kids stealing coolers looking for beer. That was nearly 20 years ago, I have no idea if there are still troubles there.
I also know of some incidents over a weekend at Potawatomi SP, WI in the early 2000s. It suspected that it was a group of local kids. They were walking up to unlocked vehicle in campsites and taking whatever was loose. I was not there, my dad was. But nothing was taken from him.
So yes, it happens. More important, it's rare.
