Theodore Roosevelt Nat'l Park

To
visit the south end of the park, we will stay in Medora, any suggestions for staying near the north end? Preferably away from the hustle and bustle of the oil boom congestion.
  • Juniper Campground in the North Unit or Tourist Park in Watford City. Get there early on a Monday morning.

Sorry, I should have re-sized these photos.
  • We stayed in the Medora Campground and did the North unit as a day trip. It was only about 70 miles up the road, and we felt like we covered the whole unit pretty well. If you like to hike that probably isn't enough, but it was a good day for us. The North unit is interesting, but not that different from the South unit.
  • The campground at the north park is very nice. You might have to make reservations in Watford City a couple YEARS in advance! They have been booked solid for several years.

If I remember correctly, Watford City is in the center of the biggest OIL boom in the history of the USA. More oil that in the middle East. NO ROOM at the inn!!!!

  • The North part of the part. Camped at NP campground for a week in the fall.
  • If you have to have hookups, you will probably find them at watford city, north of the park. it used to be a dinky quiet little town, but I bet it's a bit bigger and busier nowadays.
Juniper campground in the park is very nice, with water and a dump station, and you probably won't need a/c.. most of the sites have some shade.
stock up on groceries, etc down at Medora because there won't be much up the road.
