Three in a row

We are well into our third cold wet winter here in the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) of Texas. Haven't seen the sun since Christmas and didn't get above 42 degrees yesterday. They do say that we will bust into the 50's today. I hope so. End of rant on a cold January morning.

    I have a lot of friends who leave the RGV in early March, which means that they miss what is often the best month of the year to be here. Not many places nicer in November and March.

    You know, for me it is simply too hot in the Valley those months. I like 70-80's not 80'-90's. For me Hill Country in November, and Galveston Island for March is near perfect.

    I have reservations for the last half of January in South Florida. I hope that I guessed correctly.

    I hope you do also. I find Florida to have much better weather, but I'm not all that thrilled with it. To quote my FIL:
    • Only thing cheap in Florida are the rich people, and;
    • If you put enough rats in a box, they will start to turn on each other.

    YMMV
  • Average high for March in Alamo, Texas is 81 degrees. Average low 58 degrees. Just about perfect.
  • And we stay until mid May, love the heat!!!! and smaller crowds.

    Bad thing about statistics is they never tell the whole story. That last week in March is in the 90's, and the sun is so intense my skin feels like bacon in a pan. Now that first week.....pretty darn nice.
  • You are about a month off, the average high's in the 90's don't show up until May. Source: http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/l/USTX0013

    You may be right, but all I know is on April 1'st my MH broke down in Los Fresno's. When I stepped out of the rig to check the calipers (they were rusted stuck)I almost passed out from the heat that hit me. There were heat waves coming off the black top even. I was afraid of getting burnt laying on it.

    As far as the sun, keep an eye on the UV factor. It is on a scale of 1-10. End of March it was an 11, dangerously high for skin cancer. We always had our awning out for the relief.

    Needless to say, I don't take heat very well. Too many other nice stops along the way north for me to endure it.
  • The Hill Country of Texas is great at that time of year. What I don't understand is people who get through January and February then hurry back to the Upper Midwest where it is still winter and almost perfect in South Texas. To each his own.
